Tommy Gold (1920-2004) was a British astrophysicist and professor of astronomy at Cornell University. He is notable for his work on the origin of life on Earth, the steady-state theory of the universe, and the pulsating universe theory. Gold also contributed to the development of radio astronomy, the study of pulsars, and the search for extraterrestrial life. He was a fellow of the Royal Society and received numerous awards for his contributions to science. Gold is also known for his unconventional and controversial scientific ideas, including the suggestion that oil comes from deep within the Earth, rather than from ancient plant and animal remains.
